The main purpose of the project was to transform the exterior image of a big box retail store that looked like a warehouse and is located in a suburban commercial development outside of Barcelona. In addition to the economic and time restraints, we were asked to guarantee that the store could remain open during the construction process. The project is based on two main architectural moves: expose the inside of the store and its product to the street, by opening a big display window to the most crowded corner of the area; and unify the unclear volumetric of the existing building with a single big stripe to homogenize and clarify its shape.

The strip was built up of aluminum panels that were anchored to the existing façade. The panels, which were brought from Germany, were folded to make them more resistant following a system that was standard and patented by the manufacturer. The panel system was the one that facilitated the most the construction (no water work) and enabled the store to remain open. We worked with a pattern of colors that related with the store's logo (that had to stay were it was located), and that were available, and created a pixilated strip that would help on the brand's merchandising.

The implications of prefabrication were clear in the project: the preexisting systems, and available colors were basic on the control of time and cost. All the panels, and substructures came to the site cut to measure and were only assembled there. The construction was executed in two months.
